Meeting Minutes of 03/11/10
ABATE of Virginia, Culpeper Chapter, March 11, 2010 Meeting Minutes:
Location: The Stable Restaurant: 129 East Culpeper Street, Culpeper, VA
Meeting came to order: 7:20 PM
Members present: Sharon, Andy, Tim, Theresa, Anne, Tim 2, Joe, Al, Gary T, John, Jonnie, Scott, Connie, Doug, Dave, Wild Bill (joined at the meeting).
Guests present: Mark, Stan
Treasurer Report: Donna: = $535.28 = same
Old Biz:
1. Adopt-A-Highway Trash Pick-up: March 25, 2010 at 5:30 PM. Meet at Curt & Kim’s. Chapter meeting after event. Sharon is to check with Curt & Kim to confirm.
2. Culpeper Chapter Poker Run: Date is set to be Saturday, July 17, 2010. Details later.
3. Fourth Annual Jim Orange Memorial Run: September 25, 2010. More details later.
4. Mason-Dixon / Culpeper Chapters, Annual Steak Run: June 12, 2010 at Heavenly Acres, between Ruckersville and Standardsville. Cost is $5.00 to get in. Dinner plate cost is to be determined but will most likely be the historical $20.00. No freeloaders this year! Bring a side dish to share if you can!
5. Tradesmen Run: April 22-26, 2010, they are planning a Run to Cherokee, NC. This ride is about 525 miles one-way. See John.
6. Sharon, Dave = 1st and 2nd motion for Chapter to spend $50.00 +/- on pizza for the Trash pick-up on March 25, 2010. All Is. Tim states that if you bring beer, you can drink all you want. If there is rain on March 25, 2010, the meeting will be at Al’s garage @ 7:00 PM.
7. Sharon has 7-10 items from the last 2010 session of the Commonwealth of Virginia legislature:
a. HB579: Motorcycles to use muffler system that meets federal standards. Assigned to the Transportation Committee and left in that committee.
b. SB321: This allows police to ride side-by-side, but no one else. Passed. Bad Cops.
c. SB522: Motorcycle Dealers: Increase radius for market areas. This passed the VA Senate and House = stupid!!!
d. HB1267: Motorcycle helmets penalty. Failed to report (whatever that means; Sharon?)
e. HB752: Traffic Lights; Allow motorcycles to proceed through intersection with steady RED signal. This passed in TransportationCmte. With letter to voice vote (whatever that means).
f. HB1873: Motorcycle License issuance by VA DMV with certain classifications; U.S. Military personnel with proof of basic motorcycle training completion was approved by the VA governor & Acts of Assembly Chapter text (means it passed). This lets out of state military personnel operate motorcycles in Virginia; very good!
g. HB366: Motorcycle / Moped noise ordinances; allows localities to adopt noise ordinances. This passed as Acts of Assembly Chapter Text. Very bad!
h. NOTE: Regarding HB366, the House tried to strike “motorcycle” from the text yet failed and the word stayed in. This is very bad for us Bikers!
i. See Sharon for more legislative information. Sharon will be sending the website link so any of us may review current pertinent legislation online.
8. ABATE Products: Sharon will have some new ABATE products for sale at the next meeting.
New Biz:
1. ABATE of VA Iron-Horse Brigade Chapter: Will have a booth at the Blueridge Bike Fest at the Roanoke Civic Center located in Verona, VA on April 9-11, 2010. There will be a separate concert at this event. This means you pay for the bike fest and the concert separately.
2. ABATE Newsletter Submissions: Turn-in your submissions to Beth Liles by midnight on March 24, 2010.
Next Meeting: Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 5:30 PM. Meet at Curt & Kim’s. Chapter meeting will be after Adopt-A-Highway Trash Pick-up. If rain, meet at Al’s at 7:00 PM.
